PMO Community of Practice, a new challenge for Blue Soft Consuting

In September 2022, Blue Soft Consulting set up its first PMO community of practice. The aim is to provide a space for employees to exchange ideas with other teams interested in the same theme. It also aims to standardize PMO practices across the Group and its subsidiaries. A PMO community of practice driven by its members First and foremost, this community was created by a group of consultants who wanted to have a forum for discussing their ideas. They also wanted to share their processes, experiences, successes and learnings with other employees interested in the same topic. "It's a group of people working on the same subjects. They will share a common vocabulary and develop around the theme of PMO," explains Dalyl Hadj Bouzid, project management consultant Daylight Consulting and leader of the PMO community. Today, the community includes around twenty employees from Blue Soft and its subsidiaries, all of whom are interested in PMO activities. The PMO community of practice offers two activities: First and foremost, regular exchanges on a dedicated Teams channel. This is a channel where all participants can help each other out, ask questions, contribute [...].

Controlling deadlines for successful project management

According to a study conducted by the Standish Group, an independent international IT research consultancy, only one third of projects meet their cost, time and functionality objectives. For projects that do not reach their deadline objectives, the average overrun rate is close to 80%. Dominique Causse and Mikaël Carduner, expert consultants for Blue Soft Consulting - Daylight, tell us more about the factors impacting and the points of attention. All this with the aim of controlling deadlines for successful project management. Controlling your deadlines for successful project management: the 3 mistakes not to be made for a successful project There are three causes that can significantly impact the deadlines of a project. At the level of the organization and the environment in which a project or a program evolves The factors of the control of the deadlines are mainly based on the managerial culture. In particular, the project management culture from which the policies, methodologies and maturity levels expected of the entire organization in terms of project management are derived. At the level of project sponsorship, this is cited "as one of the primary causes of failure or success of projects".

Aurore, the research program that accompanies you in your project management processes

Created in 2010, the Aurore research program was intended to enrich the expertise of our consulting firm by capitalizing on research and development activities specialized in project management. Today, the program offers its partners a real heritage thanks to the various research projects conducted in recent years, a history to be developed. The Aurore program is unique in France In 2010, research centers dedicated to project management were already identifiable on the international market with laboratories bringing together researchers on this same theme. However, this was not the case in France. It is therefore with the objective of proposing a French research program dedicated to project management that Daylight, the transformation consulting firm of Blue Soft Consulting, started looking for academic partners to create a unique program. Today, the Aurore program is an original and singular structure. Established in an applied research approach, the value of the Aurore program is to bring a "toolbox" to partners and practitioners. Research and Development (R&D) would have no reason to exist without business support. It is therefore thanks to the interactions with the consultants of the [...]

Application development: 4 ways to run an application project in 2021

In 2021, 4 types of application development will predominate. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages. From Web Apps to hybrid applications, through native development and native generated applications, here is an overview of these application development models to help you define which one to choose for your project. The 4 main types of application development: native application, native generated application, hybrid application and Web App Contrary to popular belief, mobile applications are not on the decline, quite the contrary: they effectively meet the needs of many projects and users. Although there are others, here are 4 types of application development selected according to 3 criteria: popularity, efficiency and profitability. Native application development, to aim for excellence Native remains the main technology for mobile application development. It is simply a matter of using a specific language for each operating system to create the application from scratch on each platform. The development of a mobile application on iOS or Android differs and therefore requires 2 distinct projects, which requires a lot of time and resources. Technically, programming languages vary [...]

Kanban or Scrum methods: why choose?

Are you torn between Scrum and Kanban? You are not alone. These two agile methods, although complementary, are often confronted and are the subject of many questions within organizations that work in agile mode. So what are they? What are the differences in the approach? Which one is best suited to your organization? Why not a mix of both? That's what this article is all about. Kanban and Scrum: definitions The Kanban and Scrum methods have become the true standard-bearers of agility. It is therefore appropriate to recall the specificities of each. What is the Scrum method? Among the many agile methods based on the Agile Manifesto, Scrum is a method that focuses on collaborative project management and a short development cycle with a single goal: to optimize team productivity. In short, here are the six main pillars of Scrum: Iteration: we work on a short period of time (between one week and one month) marked by a series of activities concluded by a delivery. Incrementality: we work task by task in a progressive way. Adaptation: short cycles facilitate pivoting within the project. Transparency : communication and follow-up must be transparent to ensure that the project is carried out in a timely manner.

How does a Scrum Master differ from a project manager?

Is a Scrum Master just a Project Manager with an agile approach? This widespread vision is quite far from reality. As a coach in the Agile era, he gives rise to many fantasies and, above all, to misinterpretations. Far from being reduced to a project manager 2.0, he has a precise role in the eponymous methodology. If you ask him to fill in a schedule, to deliver a budget estimate or to answer clients on technical points, it is because you have not yet understood his real utility. To get the most out of agility and this role, get to know him. Let's meet an atypical profile, essential to the success of your project. First step: understand the Scrum method The term "method" is not entirely appropriate. Because more than a method, Scrum is a state of mind that is meant to be radical: rather than thinking "project" (like the V-cycle), think "product". Therefore, forget about specifications, cascading validations and delivery at N+3. From now on, new IT and software projects are developed step by step. In the Scrum language, we speak of iterations. Thanks to a "sprint" approach, the project is [...]

Agile rituals: essential practices for a successful Scrum (2/2)

Agile Ritual: Focus on Sprints The first part of this article was dedicated to the roles and structures in Scrum. In this part, we will focus in more detail on the Sprint part, a key point for an efficient implementation of the agile method. First of all, it is necessary to consider that the objectives defined during the sprint planning were Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Temporally defined (S.M.A.R.T). The sprint review must then allow the team to present the achievements made during the sprint, by a series of demonstrations to the stakeholders. Objective: Carried out on the last day of the sprint, just before the retrospective, it must "show" the product. The purpose of this meeting is to present the results in a concrete way. In summary, what has been done during the sprint as an achievement in view of the Backlog. Prerequisites: The team must ensure that the material necessary for the proper conduct of the demonstrations is ready and functional (network, components, data). The participants are the stakeholders and other people in the organization, the Product Owner, developers and the Scrum Master. Duration: As a general rule, it depends on the duration of the sprint. For example, for a [...]

Agile rituals: essential practices for a successful Scrum (1/2)

Agile Rituals: Roles and Structure in Scrum There is a lot of talk about agile methods and rituals, their effectiveness and flexibility. However, agility is not without a framework. Indeed, there are several agile methods, as well as several specificities in the way to implement the agile manifest. While there is no one-size-fits-all method, Scrum is the most suitable method in the context of IT. It is, in fact, the most implemented today in IT. Be careful, this is a method that requires a lot of rigor, especially regarding the respect of rituals. Indeed, the whole operation of Scrum is based on a very precise framework: well-defined roles with a clear and limited perimeter Structured and time-bound rituals (time-boxed) The principles and values of agility In this first part, we present the roles and structure of our teams and rituals. Agile ceremonies and rituals: agility is not a religion, nor a sport, but it borrows some codes from it The practice of Scrum is often recognizable, in some companies, by the presence of the colored notes, arranged on the walls of workspaces. In practice, there are other elements, such as [...]

Project management software: Trello vs. Microsoft Planner

New team companions, project management software is flourishing everywhere. The term "project management" is even a bit of a misnomer, when it is often about managing tasks rather than complex projects in the new ways of working. How to choose among the task management software? What information is important? Blue Soft takes a look at two market leaders and provides you with its analysis, from handling to price, including security and team management. Two solutions are well known and among the best software on the market. Trello vs. Microsoft Planner, here are two well-known task managers on the market that promote collaborative work and project-based work. Who will win the match? A similar operating principle with a different vocabulary Trello works with tables, lists and cards. Each user can create a table, integrate lists and detail them via cards. To go further and become a real collaborative project management platform, Trello has integrated Power-ups (plugins that enrich the table). Of course, all the boards are fully collaborative: each team has access to the lists, to the tasks and to the [...]
