The association Les amis du moulin de Salles was supported by the Blue Soft group as part of the Indigo 2024 project, with a financial donation.

Blue Soft launched Project Indigo in 2021 , a program to support associations proposed by employees themselves. An ambitious project that enables teams to get involved in projects that are close to their hearts and in line with the company's values. This takes the form of funding for association projects, communication support for defined actions, and the possibility for our talents to sponsor these associations. Since its creation, Projet Indigo has supported 42 associations and clubs in the fields of health, sport, culture and the environment.

The Moulin de Salles, a jewel steeped in history

Since its creation in January 2022, the association Les amis du moulin de Salles has been dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the Salles watermill, a jewel of rural heritage located in the commune of Tocane Saint Apre in the Dordogne. With passion and determination, the members of the association are working to bring this unique witness to local history back to life.

The Salles mill is no ordinary mill. Cited as early as 1187 in the Cartulaire de Chancelade, it has survived the centuries and seen several generations of millers. While the first mill has now disappeared, the current building, built in 1855 on the initiative of the Marquis de Fayolle, has retained all its charm and authenticity. With its four double flour millstones, walnut millstone and walnut press, it is a rare and precious reminder of what a mill could have been in the 19th century.

An ambitious multi-stage project

To preserve this exceptional heritage, Les amis du moulin de Salles have launched a vast renovation project, approved by the Fondation du Patrimoine. The first phase, which will be completed in August 2024, is devoted to preservation work: repair of the roof, floor, footbridge and adjoining shed.

The second, even more ambitious phase will restore the two paddlewheels and all the gears and millstones, so that the mill can once again operate in its traditional capacity of producing flour and walnut oil.

A human and collective adventure

In addition to safeguarding the building, the members of the association are living a real human and collective adventure. Buoyed by their enthusiasm and passion, they multiply initiatives to bring the site to life: concerts, workshops, yoga classes, exhibitions, storytelling evenings... So many opportunities to meet and share with artists, nature lovers, defenders of the river and biodiversity, or simply walkers who have fallen under the spell of this authentic site.

Towards a sustainable future

Eventually, Les amis du moulin de Salles plan to develop a hydroelectric project, to make the mill a model of clean, sustainable energy. This initiative is part of a broader approach to sustainability and energy self-sufficiency. An ambition that testifies to its members' commitment to preserving the environment and heritage. The association aims to create a clean energy model. In so doing, it hopes to contribute to the ongoing energy transition and set an example in terms of heritage preservation.

The Friends of the Moulin de Salles are looking for experts in renewable energy to support them in this exciting project. Do you have a background in renewable energy? Would you like to take part in the project? Contact the association directly.

"By restoring the Moulin de Salles, the association Les Amis du Moulin de Salles is preserving and passing on a whole part of our history and identity. It's a fine lesson in passion and perseverance, and shows that unity and collective commitment can work wonders to safeguard our heritage and give it a future," explains Sylvie Berardi, owner of the mill for four generations.
